Honeymoon in New Caledonia

General Information

Climate
New Caledonia is blessed with a great year round climate. The temperature is never extreme. The dry season is from April to September and is cooler with temperatures around 20°C. The warmer and wetter season is from October to March where the temperature is around the 27°C plus mark. New Caledonia’s climate is perfect, no need for heavy clothes and swimming is a year round possibility.

Currency
The local currency is the French Pacific Franc (CFP) and can be exchanged easily on arrival. ATMs are plentiful and credit cards are widely accepted.

Visas
No visas are required for New Zealand passport holders as long as your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry and you hold a return or onward airline ticket. If you have fulfilled those two requirements you may stay for up to 3 months.

Language
Officially French is the main language, as well as many local dialects. English is spoken by some locals, particularly in the tourism industry, but some words of French will help tourists a great deal.

Transport
Taxis are numerous around Noumea and local bus services operate on many routes. Hiring a car is a great way to explore, but do remember to drive on the right. Domestic flights operate to the outer islands and from Noumea to the north.
