Honeymoon Registry
A honeymoon registry is a service provided by your travel agent or an online service which allows your wedding guest to contribute towards financing your honeymoon.
Honeymoon registries are quite a recent trend only starting to become used by couples in the 1990s. These days a vast majority of couples prefer a honeymoon registry over a traditional gift registry.
This is because a lot of couple have already been living together for a number of years before their wedding day, so traditional household gifts aren’t of the same use as they were a couple of decades ago when newly married couples had to set up their first home together after the wedding.
Modern honeymoon registries provide a web page for their guests to log into and provide their credit card details and the amount they wish to contribute. This makes it easy for guests that aren’t able to get to a travel agent, or for overseas guests who wouldn’t have the time to find the local travel agent once they arrive in town for the wedding.
A couple can completely customize their registry, even going as far to list things like a romantic dinner, a snorkelling trip or listing nights in various hotels. This allows your guest to pay for something specific for you and is a great way for them to know exactly how their gift money is being spent.
There have been some arguments, mainly from older generations, about how a registry is bad manners – asking for gifts.
This is not a shared view by the majority of people. I personally prefer it when a couple has a registry as it saves you worrying whether they will like your gift!
