Honeymoon Locations

There are so many places to visit for your honeymoon. Whether you choose to stay close to home or travel around the world , there is something for everyone.

Each couple have different requirements for their honeymoon. Some might like to spend two weeks laying on a secluded beach doing nothing but swim and drink cocktails.

While other couples would find that the most boring thing on earth and would much rather spend two weeks in New Zealand scouting out film Locations or bungy jumping and glacier hiking.

Whatever you want for your honeymoon, be sure to shop around, and always tell the travel or booking agents that your planning this trip for your honeymoon, you'll normally always get some kind of special, whether it's a free flight or room upgrade to a bottle of champagne on your hotel arrival.

When trying to decide on a honeymoon location there are a few things to take into account.

  1. Your honeymoon budget - while we all might like to spend six weeks exploring the French Riviera, our budget might only stretch to a week in Napa Valley. Be realistic about what you can afford and plan your honeymoon to suit. Just because you don't have a lot of money doesn't mean you can't have an incredible honeymoon.
  2. Climate and Season - If you're getting married in January and would love a honeymoon in Fiji you'll find that it's likely to rain the entire time. Always check the locations seasons and climate and either change your honeymoon location to suit the season, or look at postponing your honeymoon until the weather is more suitable.
  3. Political Unrest - Check the political situation at the time, especially if you're planning on traveling to high risk areas. You may not think a country like Fiji is high risk, but you only have to read the newspapers to see that in April 2009 Fiji ejected all New Zealand media because of a long running political coup. Always do your research!
  4. Vaccinations - You may need to get certain vaccinations if traveling to places such as Africa, Asia and South America.
  5. Travel Visas and Documentation - Always check with your travel agent whether you need entry and/or holiday visas. From a personal experience, I was on a coach tour from London to Paris which was to take the ferry across the channel. There was an Asian lady on board who was not allowed to leave England because she didn't have a visa for France! She was left standing at the ferry terminal alone while the bus boarded the ferry.

Always check your visa requirements and make sure your passport has at least six months left before it expires.
